Beautiful People: Jess

1) What's his favorite food? Spaghetti

2) What does he absolutely hate? Hypocrites

3) What does he enjoy learning about? Anything. He reads a lot and loves to learn.

4) Who is the most influential person in his life? His youth pastor.

5) What is his childhood fear? He was afraid a tree would be struck by lightning, fall on the house, and crush someone.

6) What is something he has always secretly dreamed of but thought impossible? Winning gold at the Winter Olympics for snowboarding and at the Summer Olympics for skateboarding.

7) What is something he is impractically afraid of? Losing his best friend.

8) Is he a night owl or a morning person? Night owl, definitely.

9) Does he say everything that pops into his head or leave a lot unsaid? He doesn't usually say everything that pops into his head, but he doesn't necessarily leave things unsaid, either.

10) What are his nervous habits? Stretching, hands in pockets, moving.

  1. Jess sounds like an intriguing character with a lot of layers to him. Can't wait to read more!

  2. Does Jess come from one of your WIPs? Which one?

I am visiting from The Pen of a Ready Writer. This is my first time on your blog, I think. I looked at all your pages above. And I am so impressed. I'm following this blog for sure!

    1. Yup! The "unnamed novel." It's the first one listed. I'll update the blurb as soon as I get the plot nailed down. It's coming along nicely, though!

Thanks so much! I'm glad you like it :)

  4. Thanks so much for stopping by my blog and reading about Hazel! I find this character to be more like me than most of my characters so she's really easy to write about.

Your Jess sounds really intriguing to me too - and somewhat like my Hazel! I love reading about other people's characters because it makes me realize that we're all so different, yet also alike!

What's hilarious is that I found #5 to be so much like me! There is a tree beside my house and I was always afraid the wind - or lightning - would make it fall over and crush me in my bed since I was right beside it!

Anyways! Thanks again for stopping by my blog and checking out my photography page!

    1. You're welcome! And thanks for coming over to check out my part of the blogosphere :)

Yes, that is interesting, isn't it? I've especially noticed that through my characters and my friends lately -- even when they're exactly like someone (myself or someone else), they're also completely *un*like them!

That is funny! To be honest, that's where I got his fear from -- it was mine, though I would have never admitted it; there's a sort-of bank a few yards from our house and several trees grow sort-of sideways on it (like they would on a cliff, with their roots sticking out). Up until about... a year ago? ... when we switched our rooms around and now I'm not next to a tree. I liked to make a thrill out of it. Crazy weird, I know, but I'm not easily scared and I (obviously) like making up stories, so I used that as a springboard to give myself a thrill if there was a storm.

Again, you're welcome, I very much enjoyed it; and thanks for dropping by!

  5. That's a very unusual childhood fear! (Is there backstory behind it, too?) I have a nervous habit of stretching too, so I kind of relate to that. x)
Thanks for linking up with us!

    1. Not that I know of.

      Thanks for commenting!

Of course! I love doing these linkups so much! (Both yours and others, though yours was the first I discovered and the one which introduced me to them in general.)

  6. Visiting from the linkup.
Good answers. This character sounds really interesting. :) And I actually was afraid of a tree when I was little. There was a pecan tree in our yard and when the wind blew it, it made noise and scared me half to death (I was 3, though)... Is Jess's fear a specific tree or just any tree in general?

    1. Thanks for the visit and comment! I love those :)

Hmm... I'm not sure. I actually didn't know of this fear until the linkup asked the question. I didn't know what he feared, since he acts like he's afraid of nothing, but then I realized this one.

    2. You're welcome. I love 'em, too.

Ah. I discovered stuff about my character when I did this, too.

    3. Yes, it's amazing! I've definitely learned the most about Jess so far. I didn't realize how much I *didn't* know about him. And I was pleasantly surprised by the magic of these linkups.

  7. I'm sorry, I love Jess' childhood fear. Sounds like something my sisters would have worried about when they were little. Cool character!

    2. I'm the child who should have had that fear. I had a rotten tree outside my window for years.

    1. Thanks! Funny thing is, most of the answers were thought up on the spot. I really didn't know too much about Jess.

Creating characters is a big reason why I write, I needed stories for my characters! Of course, it's sometimes the other way around... but that's just as fun.

  9. Jess sounds like a really nice character. The answer to #9 is really interesting. It was great to meet Jess! :)

(Oh, and I have to say, I LOVE the Killian Jones avatar.)

    1. Nice? Um, thanks.

^^that's Jess. Most people wouldn't see him as nice. Or, at least, he doesn't think so. He's one of those tough-guy-on-the-outside characters. Sort of. He really doesn't like this whole posting-about-him-on-the-internet thing, but he's good about it. When he's not being... well, Jess.

Thanks for dropping by! I've had your Beautiful People post up on my laptop pretty much since you posted it. (I've been watching the linkup.) Guess I should probably go read that now... haha

(Thanks! Who doesn't, right? I'm actually working on a FanFic for Anna right now (for her 100 Days of Blogging event). The deadline is 31 July. It'll be the first FanFic I've ever written! Um, in case you were interested. I seem to be writing a lot of "books" lately... And I always get excited upon discovering another fellow Oncer.)

    2. Tough-guys-on-the-outside characters are some of the best!

FanFic can be so much fun to write! I haven't written any for OUAT, but there's so much one could do with it. How is it going so far?

    3. Um... I haven't started it yet (yup, you've caught me). I just finished rewatching the last half of season 3 (the characters change so much I wanted to be sure I kept them "in character"). I'm still not even sure what I'll write. I guess I'll just start writing and hopefully it works itself out into a decent story.

The bad news: I just realized I'm going to be gone the next few days.

The good news: There's a long car ride involved.
