Blue Cheese

I should not be awake right now. But I am, browsing Paper Fury. Typing this from my iPad because my internet-disabled laptop is stuck in the office and I am simply not getting out of bed, opening the door of my icebox room, walking through the gooey warmness of the hall with its abnormal heated floors, and sitting down in that office chair, just to type this post. Not when I can sit in bed and do it nearly just as well and certainly more comfortably. I do need to get myself a new laptop... Eventually. Eventually, I shall. Not long now. First, though, a job. You know, the kind that pays you that green paper people are so interested in these days.

It's 3:44am and I'm still awake. I've been listening to OneRepublic while reading The Mark of Athena. I'm on page 331 now. Yes, I'm a twenty-year-old reading the infamous Percy Jackson series and listening to a band called OneRepublic. Don't judge, they're awesome. All things considered.

!¡!spoilers beyond!¡!

to not in
an not and
but whatever
still awesome
Nico is suffocating in a jar, Leo is Sammy's great-grandson (I figured that out as soon as Frank saw the picture in Hazel's old room. Yes! Points for me.), and Annabeth is as infuriating as ever (though she does occasionally have her moments). Also, why is Annabeth even on this trip? The seven most powerful demigods, or whatever. Okay, so Jason and Percy are automatic choices because they're currently the only children of Zeus and Poseidon (besides Thalia), which are always the strongest. But Jason seems more powerful than Thalia, and I think we can assume that Percy is more so than other children of the sea god, so that works great. Besides, Jason and Percy are wonderful together (as friends). Moving on. Leo is clearly an extremely powerful son of Hephaestus. Hazel is a big three demigod and cursed with this incredible ability. Frank... well, he's got all that family heritage as well as being a son of Mars. Piper is also the most powerful of the children of Aphrodite, with her charmspeak and all. Here's my point. How does this include Annabeth? Besides the fact that she's smart (like all children of Athena) and happens to be Percy's girlfriend? Especially when you compare her to Nico, the surprisingly powerful son of Hades. He can control dead people. Annabeth or Nico? Hmm. Difficult choice. You think Jason and Percy can do amazing things when they combine talents? Imagine what Nico, Jason, and Percy could do: all three domains working together. Instead we've got Nico stuck in a deathtrance with now less than two days to live, and smartstuff Annabeth dropping her jaw every time Percy actually knows something. Maybe he was clueless in the beginning, but he's now almost seventeen with five years of demigodding under his belt. Of course he knows things.

¡!¡end spoilers¡!¡

But hey, it's all good. Shamelessly ranting over a kids' story. It's 4:01am, okay? It's all good.

Spoiler button isn't working properly. Fine. I'll go to the office. Snack on the way? Maybe...

4:31am. See you in a moment. Or two. Ish.

...and I'm back. No snack. I thought about it as I walked through the kitchen. Mentally perused the selection. But nothing. Oh, wait, I forgot about those jalapeno mozzarella cheese sticks... might go back for one of those. What I really want right now is an amazing fruit smoothie and some Oreos. Doublestuf Vanilla right now. Yes. Or Cookie Dough, always cookie dough. And YES, they DO exist. They were even DoubleStuf.

*ahem*

Honestly, I'm mostly just too lazy. Everything takes too much effort to make. And right now, cheese sticks require getting up and walking again just to walk back. Nah, I'm good.

*ahem* again

Spoiler button worked. Simple. Just couldn't do it on the iPad, because it has no 'delete' key on the keyboard. That is all.

The Ramon is gone. And there was plenty yesterday. Where have they gone?!

Okay, back to Paper Fury with me. And then maybe The Mark of Athena. Or perhaps, if I'm lucky, sleeeeeeep.

.

I finished the post content at 4:43. It's now 5:17am and I'm about to post. Retyping (because format
issues), proofreading, picture placement, and final formatting. Yes, it occasionally (who am
I kidding? Usually) takes that long...

It's important to me, okay?

Ramblings of Reality

'Ello, mates!

Thanksgiving is nearly upon us and I am still extremely busy.

I entirely abandoned Nano. (Oops.)

I'm doing online college courses.

I'm going to see my favorite CCM band tomorrow (Friday) night.
(Any other Tenth fans?)
^This is one of the benefits of Florida. Yes, I've found they do exist.

I'm currently part of an awesome bible study group. Every other Thursday night, and Sunday afternoon once a month just to get together.
The group only started six Thursdays ago. So today was the 3rd meeting + the game night this past Sunday afternoon. (Yes, we called it a game night, anyway. We're cool like that.)

No, it's not Christmas yet.
Christmas comes after Thanksgiving and not before.
Thank you.
That said, I am looking forward to the white Christmas I'll hopefully be seeing in Pennsylvania when I visit.

I really have nothing in particular to say right now. Only making an appearance, I suppose.
You know, so y'all know I'm still here.
Sorry I've been so neglective my blogs! I do miss it all.

Ohhhh, I never posted Part 2, did I?! Wow, to be honest, I don't think I ever finished editing it. It's been actually written since before I saw the first episode, just not properly edited. Or posted, obviously...
Terribly sorry, I'll have to get on that sometime...
I honestly do mean that.

Woah, it's already almost 1am! I'd better get to sleep.
Black says hi. He has a name now but I guess I'm not publishing it tonight.

Goodnight, everyone.

The Answers I'm Looking For

Just a snippet from my first unnamed book. I'm quite proud of myself at the moment. I've been wondering just how I was going to bring God up in this book when, before I realized it and completely without any planning, AnnDrew was about to eat; and of course she had to pray first. And I suddenly realized...well, that was easy! I hadn't even tried.

I'm probably going to look back on this (and the rest of the scene...this is only a bit of it) and think, Did I really think that was so awesome? It's terrible!, but for now I'm quite happy about it.

She set one of the cups next to Alex's bowl, one next to her own, and held out her hand to him. He looked at it, unsure what he was supposed to do.
AnnDrew looked at him quizzically. "Don't you usually pray before you eat?"
"Pray?"
"Yeah. To thank God for providing what we're about to eat. We hold hands because we're thanking Him together."
"Oh." Alex took her hand, though still confused. AnnDrew smiled, then bowed her head, closed her eyes, and began to talk to someone Alex couldn't see. He was still watching her when she finished the prayer and began eating.

What do you think? Criticize it, please! I have so much trouble finding people who say something more than "I like it" or, when asked if they noticed anything, "I don't really know...um, well, you put an extra space here". Nothing wrong with that but I'd really like someone to be brutally honest.

  • Is there anything about the wording that seems awkward, that I should change?
  • Are there any spelling/grammatical errors I've missed?
  • What impression does this give you of Alex?
  • What impression does this give you of AnnDrew?
  • Are there any discrepancies?
  • Do I repeat any words or phrases too much?
  • Were you confused by anything?

Obviously, the bit I've shared in this post isn't much to go by, but those are some of the questions I'm wanting answered.

Leave a comment! I'd love to hear anything you might have to say.

Barefoot in the Snow

"Though spring has sprung, I'm still walking barefoot in the snow."

                                                                                                         ~ Jessie, 11 March 2014

This awesomely real winter of 2013-2014 has, as you may or may not know, been quite the snow season, unlike the past few winters, so-called.

It started with some snow. Then we got some more. And then we got a huge snowstorm, and then more snow again. It simply kept on coming. It was even forecasted that we'd get thundersnow! As in, snow with thunder and lightning. Which excited me beyond belief, of course, as this particular winter was already too good to be true, especially after the aforementioned preceding "winters." But I mean, can it get any better than snow and thunder and lightning?

My hopes were dashed when I awoke unpleasantly early the next morning (the storm was forecasted to be between 6 and 9) to view the very looked-forward-to thundersnow and, alas, none came. Too good to be true, indeed. There was, however, plenty of snow that day, and so my broken heart was soothed. (Yes, that was a bit exaggerated but I couldn't help it, it sounded so nice.)

I've only just gotten back on the blogger after quite a while. What sparked this sudden rebound was talking with a friend and getting excited about writing again and checking out her blog for the first time in a long time. I must say, I find said blog exquisitely fascinating and also quite captivating. (Also gripping, enthralling, absorbing, engrossing, spellbinding, riveting, arresting, intriguing, compelling. But enough of that, lest I embarrass the poor girl.)

Moving on. To continue with my narrative, there was much snow this winter. Despite it not having snowed in a while now, there is still quite a lot of snow and ice covering yards and driveways, particularly where it was piled out of the way during shoveling exercises. Being thus, though spring has indeed begun to...well, spring, and our driveway has for the most part thawed to gravel and mud, there is plenty of snow left on and in which to walk.

I, being myself, choose to walk barefoot (as always) on the snow. Simply because I am myself and I love snow and I will cherish its company up until the very last tiny patch of snow has melted.

We had some friends over on Tuesday. They came to crochet. Now, I know how to crochet. In fact, I taught my sisters and my mom how to do it. However, though I'll admit it can be addicting once begun, I'm not a huge fan. Also, I didn't seem to be needed at the time. Meanwhile, Dad has arrived home from work (this is around 2pm) and has since been washing our vehicles. I go down to help. By the time I arrive on the scene, Dad has finished washing his pick-up and has just begun the family minivan.

The point of stating any and all of the preceding paragraph is to say this: as I'm working, I insist on walking only on the frozen snow piles whenever possible. It is spring weather outside but my feet are pleasantly freezing. At times, I do step on the gravel and in the puddles and the mud. While this is taking place, I'm thinking. Obviously. Anyway, something I end up thinking of is what would normally become a Facebook status. What I'm referring to is the quote you read up at the very beginning of this post.

Now, I'm thinking, thinking, thinking. (Of course I'm thinking; I'm a reader, and a reader whose writer's mind has recently been brought again to vibrant life.) All day, I'm thinking. Reading the Anne-girl's blog has put in my head that perhaps I could create a blog and keep up with it.

I already have a blog, you say? Yes, the literature blog. A literature blog is different and easy in that you simply post literature whenever you happen to like it. A movie quote here, an original poem here, a short story every now and then; some song lyrics and short ramblings.

No, I wanted a blog. A writer's blog, to be more specific. Much like Anne-girl's Scribblings. This, Barefoot in the Snow, is what I have come up with.

I know I've been rambling a bit -- okay, a lot -- along the way and I'm sure you're all wondering where I'm going with all this talk of snow and winter. The point is this: I came up with the title of "Barefoot in the Snow" from my quote. It jumped into my head and shortened itself, and it wouldn't go away. Which is okay. In fact, you might say I had a title before a had an idea, and my title needed a blog; as I've said, a writer's blog.

So there you are. My hope is that anyone who has the irritating misfortune to stumble upon this, my soul's internet dwellingplace, shall find something to their liking. Thanks for visiting and I pray you relish my ramblings, however jumbled and disjointed.
